Who is gold Lion Farm?

Hannah Thompson, owner of Gold Lion Farm

In 2018 we gave up on city life. It was a really hard decision. On the one hand, Cameron and I had great jobs, easy commutes-friends who we adored and wonderful shops and restaurants to enjoy. We loved our bungalow with the cute fountain on the porch. The parties! We had the best Halloween parties and porch crawls. Our East Atlanta community was so fun! But something was telling us we wanted a change. We needed to slow down, maybe? Acres of land, and few farm animals?

In 2018 we made a leap of faith into a tiny community of Jackson, Georgia, about 40 miles south of Atlanta. It’s crazy how we found this place. For months we had searched so many communities south of Atlanta for the perfect house, but never found “the one”. After nearly giving up, we stumbled on Jackson, Ga. That afternoon we found a coffee shop called Lucy Lus. It’s really out of a storybook-great coffees, amazing service. The place is really the cutest. So we grabbed our coffees, and walked off the square. As we talked about our hopes and dreams for our future we sat on the park bench to gaze a beautiful old victorian home. Surprisingly, it was for sale-and we thought, maybe this is the one. It’s a beauty and we thought definetly out our budget. A few phone calls and a month later-we packed our moving truck to Jackson.

We hadn’t even finished unpacking before we headed out to the garden to plant our hundreds of summer peppers. To our huge surprise , we found a large man’s gold lion ring inches into the red clay. We stared at the ring, knowing it was exactly what we wanted-a sign that we were in the right place, at the right time. That’s what the 40’s are all about, right?

We named our one acre organic flower farm after the ring we found. Now, it should be understand that our house is at least 150 years old. It’s hard to say how long the gold lion ring has been patiently hiding, waiting for us.

For the last 5 years, season after season we grow beautiful Georgia grown flowers, fruits and veggies. We aren’t alone, either. We’ve got a really friendly potbelly pig named Poppy, chickens, beehives, dogs and our cats, too!

In the beginning of 2020, we begin removing toxic chemicals from our home and bath routine. It was exhausting to realize how many toxic chemicals we have been exposed to in everyday products. We started making our very own soaps, bath care and home care products at our kitchen table. Soon, we the demand grew, and in 2020 we opened our small factory in downtown Jackson. Not long after-an opportunity of a lifetime came our way in 2021. A store front on the square that sat empty for years became available for rent. We made the plunge, worked day and night to set it up. We now have an adorable shop where we create all of our Georgia Grown bath and body products in our commercial kitchen, and a retail front where we sell our goods to our community and tourist visiting Jackson.

We spend parts of our day working on the farm, and a majority of our days building our bath and body care business! We can’t wait to share more with you about our journey here at Gold Lion Farm! Hannah and Cameron
